Customs House
Customs House is one of Brisbane's best known landmarks, it was between 1886 and 1889 by Petrie.
Brisbane's Customs House is a beautiful example of the Victorian Free Classical Style. The copper sheathed dome still manages to be a major feature of the cityscape, despite being overlooked by adjacent high-rise office and apartment blocks. The design was completed by Charles McLay of the colonia Architect's office with the assistance of the Petrie Family. It’s interesting to note that despite being completed 12 years prior to the federation of Australia, the coat of arms adorns the building's front facade. This was an early design that remarkably looks very similar to our coat of arms today.
