Toombul Shoppingtown

In the 1960's Donald Petrie sourced this site for Frank Lowy who was expanding Westfield Shopping Centres into Queensland.

Toombul Shoppingtown was Brisbane's first fully air-conditioned regional shopping centre and Westfield's first centre in Queensland. Petrie was instrumental in securing the anchor tenants and leasing the centre, so upon opening in October 1967 it featured a Coles supermarket, Barry and Roberts Department Store, Bayards, Darrell Lea and 60 specialty stores.

Even at the time, this site had its challenges that needed to be addressed including flooding, but for over 50 years it has been a landmark development and one to be proudly associated with.
