Parliament House
Parliament House is one of Brisbane's best known landmarks and was constructed in 1867 by Petrie.
Parliament house was designed with a French Renaissance style facade, bespoke stone and timber work and ornately decorated rooms with purpose-made furniture by Petrie. Much of the furniture made by Petrie in the 1860s is still in use today, including the desks for the Speaker and President in the chambers. The building was designed to suit the subtropical climate with numerous colonnades to protect the inner rooms from the sun, keeping the building cool in summer.
As a testament to the quality of work by Petrie, we have been engaged by the Queensland Government on four separate occasions to construct different sections of Parliament House including the original building in 1867-68, the northern colonnade in 1880, the Alice Street wing in 1889, and 100 years later in 1980 to construct the front porte cochere.
