Brisbane General Hospital
Since separating from NSW, Queensland had to wait until it had enough funds to build this public building. The NSW treasury froze all funds in the period immediately following Separation. The building is located around several convict quarries. The hospital moved from George Street to the ‘Quarries’ in Bowen Bridge Road. The work was supervised by Robert Ferguson, Andrew Petrie’s son-in-law working for Charles Tiffin. Petrie constructed an extensive drainage system for the building to overcome public health fears. John Petrie built it for the sum of £20,000.
